Version 1.08 of the SmartVS Simulator has been released. This new version includes new features, primarily for patient setup and audiometry. For a full list of changes, see the information below, or click here to download a pdf which includes update instructions.
To update your SmartVS installation, please complete the following steps:
- From the SmartVS launcher, click on [Help > Updates]. This will close the SmartVS windows and open the software update utility.
- In the Update Name field, make sure ‘SmartVS108.DAT’ is entered (without the quotation marks).
- Click on the [Start Software Update] button at the bottom-left of the window. If you have previously updated SmartVS you will see a confirmation message that indicates when the program was last updated. Click [Yes] to continue with the update.
- Let the updater finish the download, then click on [Exit and Return to Application].
Changes
- In the Test Room, the electrodes leads must be connected to the patient cable. Any electrode lead can be connected to any socket or to a port on the available Y-adaptors. The simulated patient response will adjust to reflect the connections made in this window.
- The Audiometer screen now included a shaded area to indicate the output limits for the selected transducer. Limits may be hidden using a checkbox at the bottom of the screen.
- Also in the Audiometer, a radio button group, below the frequency selection drop-down can be used to switch between tone burst and warble tones
- Speech testing and scoring is easier to use – scored words are indicated on the screen as correct or incorrect. Words can be repeated without affecting the word test count. Only scored words are used in the score calculation.
- A patient timer and application timers have been added to the screen to allow students to better gauge how long it is taking them to perform different tasks. Timing information is stored in the system log and can be retrieved at any time. Future updates will provide tools to generate time reports.
- The audiometer sound and volume outputs have been improved. Now you can hear the corresponding sound and speech signals at different levels. Just remember this is not a calibrated system – so don’t use to test patients for real – but your students should have fun trying!
- Some patients have been updated and a new patient has been added.
- For professors – now you can generate and post your own profiles for your students to download or to share with other centers using the SmartVSPostPatient.EXE utility.
- You can generate a new profile or modify an existing profile and post it on the IHS website. You can then provide the unique link shown on the program to your student so they can download the new patient. This is a great way to provide homework or exams throughout the semester with different patients. Files associated with the profile will also be uploaded, so specific questions or assignment components can be added to any profile.
